Congratulations to our faculty and alumni who have been shortlisted for CPSA (Canadian Political Science Association) awards!

Professor Emerita Sylvia Bashevkin has been shortlisted for the Jill Vickers Prize for her paper 'Unraveling Social Movement Clout: Anti-Abortion Impact in Canada’s Provinces since the 1980's.' The annual prize was established in honour of professor Jill Vickers, an activist and a leader in Canadian feminist scholarship, and the author of numerous books and articles in the fields of feminist political science, epistemology and interdisciplinary methodology, feminist theory and movements for change. The prize will be awarded to the author of the best paper presented, in English or French, at the 2025 CPSA conference.

Professors Aisha Ahmad and Alison Smith have both been shotlisted for the prize in teaching excellence, established to recognize the contributions of political scientists to excellence in teaching and student learning.

Alumna Meaghan Williams (PhD, 2023) has been shortlisted for the Vincent Limieux Prize, awarded to the author of the best PhD thesis submitted at a Canadian institution, in English or in French, in any subfield of political science, judged eminently worthy of publication in the form of a book or articles.

Alumna Erica Rayment (PhD, 2020), now a Professor at the University of Calgary, has been shortlisted for the Donald Smiley Prize, awarded to the author of the best book published in English or French in a field relating to the study of government and politics in Canada. The prize was established to honour the life and work of the late, distinguished, Canadian political scientist and former Association’s President, Donald V. Smiley.

All prizes will be awarded at the 2025 CPSA conference (Tuesday, June 3 to Thursday, June 5 at George Brown College).

Good luck to all!
