Biography
I Younan An is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Political Science at University of Toronto. He specializes in the fields Public Policy and Comparative Policies with a regional focus on Southeast Asia. His dissertation seeks to understand why do developing countries especially authoritarian countries in Southeast Asia invest in skill and human capital development that specifically target poorer population in responding to new social risks such as emerging technologies and demographic shift. His project receives support from the School of Graduate Studies' Edward W. Nuffield Graduate Travel Fellowship, Department of Political Science's David Cameron Graduate Scholarship, and the U of T Sustainable Development Goals Award. He holds a Master's degree in International Development focusing on social policy from the School of International and Public Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Northern Illinois University. In addition, he is currently a graduate researcher at the Equity Education Canada (https://equityeducation.ca/) and he is also a visiting research fellow at the Cambodian Resource Development Institute (CDRI) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
