Filiz Kahraman
Filiz Kahraman’s research investigates law and politics from international and comparative perspectives. Her book, Labor In Hard Times: Workers’ Legal Mobilization at the European Court of Human Rights (Cambridge University Press, 2026), examines why labor activists in Europe pursued human rights law as a mobilization strategy and how international law shaped workers’ struggles on the ground.
Before joining the department, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Mortara Center for International Studies at Georgetown University. She received her PhD in political science from the University of Washington. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation recognized with the Best Dissertation Award in Human Rights from the International Studies Association, and received an article award from the Law and Society Association. Her commentary on current human rights issues and the political crisis in Europe and Turkey has appeared in The Washington Post, The Seattle Times, openDemocracy, and Bianet (in Turkish).
